HILL, G.R.W. - G.R.W. Hill, residing about five miles southeast of this city, committed suicide last Friday at 1 o'clock by shooting himself in the forehead with a 22 caliber target rifle. Ill health is supposed to have been the cause. He was about 50 years of age and moved here from Illinois several years ago. He leaves a wife and three children. A coroner's jury rendered the following verdict after hearing the evidence: deceased came to his death by a gun shot wound, said gun being in his own hands and the wound self-inflicted. The following testimony of the two principal witnesses tells the details of the tragedy: "My name is Jennie Hill, the wife of the deceased. I was washing on the porch when I heard a shot and ran in and applied a wet cloth to the wound and then went for help. When I returned he was dead. He had been an invalid six years and hadn't walked for three years. When I came in the house the gun was laying on the floor by the bed." "My name is Annie Hill and I am 12 years old. I had been sick with a fever and was laying on the bed with papa. My little brother was working with a gun and he laid the gun on the bed and stepped out to get his papa a drink of water. While he was out papa got the gun and shot himself. Before he shot himself he told me to turn over so that he could turn over and go to sleep. So I turned my back to him and did not see him with the gun."

To my friend Stroud: See that I have a decent Woodman's burial according to the ritual if possible. My sufferings are so great I can't stand it any longer and I go by my own hand. G.R.W. Hill. The above note was found on the floor by the bed the day after the coroner's inquest over the body of G.R.W. Hill. It was folded tightly and covered with blood and was overlooked at the time of the inquest. Mr. Hill had $1,000 life insurance in the Woodmen and his suicide will not invalidate it.
