December 28, 1940 - February 22, 2016
Gordon Waymon Hunter, 75, of Magnolia, passed away Monday, Feb. 22, 2016, at the John R. Williamson Hospice House in El Dorado. Gordon was born Dec. 28, 1940 in Stamps to the late Elizabeth Rice Hunter and Gordon Ellit Hunter.
Gordon was a United States Army veteran, serving his country honorably from 1959 until 1962. He was a former law enforcement officer and served as Columbia County Sheriff for many years. He worked for Pittman Nursery and landscaping for 20-plus years before his retirement.
Gordon was preceded in death by his parents; a brother, Tillman Hunter; a sister, Marjorie Hunter; and five other siblings.
Survivors include one daughter, Angela Hunter Jack and husband Michael of Magnolia; four grandchildren, Morgan Jack and Brandon Jack of Magnolia, Blade Glass and Dakota Glass, both of Taylor; three great-grandchildren; three brothers, Wayne Hunter and wife Dianne of Ruston, La., Jerry Hunter and wife Ruthelma of California, and David Hunter of Magnolia; special friend and mother of his child, Anna Newton; and numerous nieces, nephews and friends.
Visitation will begin at 1 p.m., followed by a 2 p.m. memorial service on Sunday, Feb. 28 at Bailey Funeral Home Chapel in El Dorado with Bro. Bob Inmon officiating. Services are under the direction of Bailey Funeral Home of El Dorado.
