March 16, 1939 - May 21, 2010

Paul Nathan Jenkins, 71, passed away Friday, May 21, 2010, in Springville, AL.

He was the son of the late Paul D. and Marguerite Ruth Jenkins of Little Rock, AR.

He is survived by his wife, Phyllis Ballard Jenkins of Springville; two sons, Paul Scott Jenkins of N. Little Rock and Mark T. Jenkins of Houston, AR; and two daughters, Carol Jenkins Abdelhalim of Atlanta, GA, and Sherry Crawford of Baton Rouge, LA; as well as two grandchildren, Sydney Jenkins of Greenbrier and Ahmed Paul Abdelhalim of Atlanta.

Born March 16, 1939, Mr. Jenkins spent his childhood in Levy, AR before his family moved to Little Rock. He was the valedictorian of the 1957 class at Joe T. Robinson High School and graduated from then Little Rock University in 1961.

Mr. Jenkins served as vice president and chief financial officer of Severe Service Specialists in Trussville, AL. Prior to that, he lived in Cabot, AR and Baton Rouge, LA, where he worked for the Cabot school district and served as a controller for American Liberty Insurance Company, respectively. While residing in Little Rock, Mr. Jenkins was vice president of Paramount Life Insurance, after beginning his career as an auditor for the state of Arkansas.

Mr. Jenkins was an avid sportsman and Razorback fan, although two of his kids and several co-workers tried unsuccessfully to convert him to LSU. He enjoyed playing golf, and was a very accomplished athlete. He was one of the youngest members to ever play baseball for the famed Little Rock Doughboys at Lamar Porter Field, and played on the all-star team alongside Brooks Robinson. He played third base in that game, if that tells you how good he was. He later played basketball for Little Rock University, and was a fast-pitch softball player for many years, being named the most valuable player in the state of Arkansas in 1973. He later won numerous gold medals in the Senior Olympics. He was a loving husband and father, who spent many seasons coaching his sons and daughters teams as well.

A wake was held Tuesday evening 6:00pm-8:00pm at Roller-Cox Funeral Home in Clarksville, AR, followed by a memorial service Wednesday morning at 10:00am at Roller-Cox Funeral Home Chapel. Pallbearers for the service will be Toby Hollier, John Hollier, Jeff Ellis, John Fey, Ronnie Long, Jake Arthur, Mike Stewart, and Kyle Roger. Burial will be in Hartman Cemetery.
