James Kendrick Andrews, Sr., of San Antonio, Texas passed away January 27, 2015 in San Antonio after an extended illness with Alzheimer’s disease.
He was born November 5, 1927 to Jamie J. and Mary Ford Andrews in Cecil, Arkansas.

He graduated from Ozark High School and joined the U.S. Navy at age 18, serving in the Pacific after WWII. After separation he attended Arkansas Tech University in Russellville, Arkansas, earning a degree in accounting, and later he attended University of Houston for additional courses for his CPA. On October 5, 1951 he married his high school sweetheart, Gloria Nixon of Ozark, Arkansas in Pasadena, Texas and they resided and raised their family in Houston, Texas where he worked for a short time with the Houston Transit Company and later with Wilson Supply Company (Wilson Industries) where he became Comptroller and later retired. In May of 2011 he and his wife moved to San Antonio.
He was a little league baseball coach, Indian Guide leader, and volunteer at St. Philip’s United Methodist Church, before and after retirement. He was known as a loving, kind husband and father; a diligent, dedicated worker, also known as “The White Tornado,” who could do anything and a man with the kindest heart and a gentle spirit.

He is preceded in death by his brother, George Ford Andrews of Tulsa, Oklahoma and sister, Ila Andrews Harwood of Hot Springs, Arkansas.

He is survived by his wife of 63 years, Gloria Nixon Andrews of San Antonio; his daughter Mary Andrews Holt and husband Steve; his son Ken Andrews and wife Diane; granddaughters Jamie E. Holt and Emily M. Holt; and grandson Steven H. Holt, Jr.

Funeral service will be held at 10:00 AM Monday, February 2, 2015 at Cecil United Methodist Church in Cecil, Arkansas, and burial at Cecil Cemetery, under direction of Shaffer Funeral Home of Ozark.

Serving as pallbearers are Steven Holt, Sr., Steven Holt, Jr., Roger Andrews, and Gail Nixon.
