Joyce
Apr 8, 1930-May 2, 2017
Joyce Lee Haynes went to be with her Lord and Savior on May 2, 2017 in her home in Oklahoma City. She was born April 8, 1930 in Kinta OK to Joe Tellas Snow & Alice Evalee “Lee” Virden Snow.
Joyce (known as “Granny” & “Great Granny”) was preceded in death by her husband Vance Haynes, her grandparents (Thomas & Sarah Elizabeth Virden (“Granny Virden”), father Joe Tellas Snow, mother Lee Virden Snow Webber (Clifford), brothers Kenneth Snow & Roland Webber, sisters Linda Lou Webber (child) & Elaine McKee, daughter Vanna Haynes Trevino, grandson Donald Vance Snart, and great grandson Caydon Drew Ellett (baby).
Joyce is survived by her brother Wayne Webber (Edith) of Greenwood, AR, sister Brenda Taff of Caddo Mills, TX, daughters DiAnna Levingston (Al) of Nashville, TN, Rhonda Austin (Billy) of Blanchard, OK, son Barry Haynes (Susan) of Oklahoma City, OK, 9 grandchildren (Danielle, Alyssa, Donnie, Tiffany, Taylor, Shawn, Tycen, Rebecca & Emily),16 great grandchildren (Hailey, Natalie, Donny Jr. Shelby, Derrick, Dallas, Christopher, Emily, Kelly, Gabriel Jr., Noah, Caydon, Liam, Aedan, Julia & Jolene), 3 great-great grandchildren of Donny Jr. (Brooklyn AnnaLee, Donald Vance III, and baby to be born in 2017), and other family & friends.
Joyce attended grade school in Kinta, Oklahoma, junior high in Wilson, Oklahoma, and graduated from Zaneis High School, Oklahoma in 1948.
After graduation, Joyce worked for Southwestern Bell Telephone in Ardmore, Oklahoma, as the evening supervisor on the long distance board.
She married Vance Haynes in Ardmore, Oklahoma, in December of 1951. Her first daughter DiAnna was born in 1955 while Joyce continued working. Second daughter Vanna was born in 1957, when Joyce resigned to be a full-time mother & housewife. Third daughter Rhonda was born in 1960. Vance & Joyce moved to Moore, Oklahoma where son Barry was born in 1965. She devoted her life to raising her children with Christian values and with self-sacrificing love, and supporting her husband in his business. They were married for 54 years and made their home in Moore, OK, from 1961-2010.
Joyce’s faith in God was very important to her. She accepted Jesus as her Lord and Savior when she was approximately 3 years of age with her cherished Granny Virden and, after fully understanding what that meant, was baptized at age 14 at First Baptist Church, Wilson, Oklahoma. During the summer, Joyce worked Vacation Bible School, volunteered for various ministries with her gift of service, and cared for babies in the church nursery.
Joyce, along with her husband Vance and The Goodtimers senior group, traveled to various places on mission trips including Glorieta, New Mexico and Asheville, North Carolina, and, of course, going to Gatlinburg, Tennessee for the quaint shops and scenery. Vance and Joyce were members of First Baptist Church, Moore, Oklahoma up to the time of their passing.
Joyce was very community oriented. She delivered meals for 10 years from 1990-2000 to residents of Moore. Joyce volunteered at the Moore’s Brand Senior Citizen Center from checking seniors in, to delivering meals to homebound residents in Moore, to taking ceramic classes (including making a full Nativity Scene). Joyce’s gift of service included talking to as many seniors as possible, being a listening ear and driving the center’s van full of seniors to local events.
Joyce did have a love for being outdoors. In addition to her beautiful flower beds and shrubbery, she played golf with the Moore Ladies Golf Association for nearly 40 years.
Joyce was a member of the Moore Lioness Club for over 10 years and earned many pins & awards for recognition of her service to the community, including fundraisers for those less fortunate at Christmas time.
Joyce was a 1960’s woman, being a member of the League of Women Voters and often held meetings in her home. She was always the most gracious hostess, yet remained very humble throughout her life.
One of Joyce’s hobbies was painting. She took several classes in the 1980’s at a local community college. Today, all of her children proudly display her paintings in their homes.
Joyce enjoyed reading while her children were in school, and could work a crossword puzzle almost as fast as her Mama! There was not a word that she couldn’t spell.
Joyce was an excellent cook and gracious hostess of dinner parties in her home for Moore’s professional business owners and their wives. Everyone wanted to be invited to eat at Joyce’s. But, Thanksgiving dinner was by far the best! She spent a week preparing for this meal, and always cooked the most scrumptious turkey and dressing. Everything was cooked from scratch! For years, Joyce’s parents, children, brothers, sisters, nieces and nephews traveled to her home for Thanksgiving. Later, her grown children with their spouses and families continued the yearly tradition for the next 30 years. It was Joyce’s gift of love for her family and the Lord that gave her an opportunity to serve them in the preparation of wonderful, elaborate meals and opening her home with fellowship and kindness.
Growing up during the Great Depression of 1930’s, Joyce learned from her Mama how to sew. Daughter Rhonda remembers fondly all the cheerleading uniforms and costumes for high school musicals that “Mom” sewed. Daughter DiAnna remembers Mom being one of her Bluebird and Campfire Girls leaders, which included weekly meetings after school in her home, as well as overnight camping trips.
Joyce sold her home in Moore in 2010 and moved to Oklahoma City with her son Barry for a year while he meticulously renovated a smaller home he owned next door to her daughter Vanna. Joyce, through her gift of mercy, moved into that home and cared for Vanna through her terminal illness until her death in 2012. There was nothing Joyce would not do for her children, and she was always bragging on them to her church friends.
In her later years, she enjoyed a daily game of Trivial Pursuit on her favorite computer game website, learned how to connect with family on Facebook, and started working at Oklahoma Employment Security Commission at age 70 until she retired for a second time at age 87 in March 2017.
The most important person in Joyce’s life, especially after Vanna passed, was her Lord & Savior Jesus!!! As she lived alone, Joyce would sing with “joy” in her heart to Him throughout the day, talk to Him, fully expecting His mercy and grace, while feeling His love and care!!! She had the most special group of lady friends, called the Lydia Ladies Sunday School class at First Moore Baptist Church. Those ladies called her every day or she called them. Joyce loved every one of those ladies, including those who passed before her.
Joyce Lee Haynes was a most caring, friendly, helpful, humble, kind, loving, self-sacrificing, stylish woman. If you had the privilege to know and love her, you were truly blessed. She had a way of making people feel important, and would do her utmost best to guide each of her children that was in their best interest. Joyce loved her husband, children, in-laws, and many others with a reverence and passion that will be missed by all who knew her.
Visitation for Joyce will be held from 9:00 AM to 9:00 PM, Saturday, May 6, 2017, and 1:30 PM to 9:00 PM, Sunday, May 7, 2017, at the John M. Ireland Funeral Home & Chapel, located at 120 South Broadway in Moore, Oklahoma. Funeral Services will be 2:00 PM, Monday, May 8, 2017, at the Moore First Baptist Church, located at 327 NE 27th Street, in Moore, Oklahoma. Interment will be at 1:00 PM, Tuesday, May 9, 2017, at the Garden of Memories, in Charleston, Arkansas.
