Paulette M. (Chretien) Butler, who resided in Fort Smith, Arkansas, passed away Tuesday, February 4, 2014 in Fort Smith.
She was born August 28, 1923 in La Legre Le Petit Cher, France to Paul and Henrietta Chretien. She was 90 years old.
Paulette Butler came to the United States on Veterans Day in 1947 as a war bride. The wife of Virgil Butler, now deceased, was a homemaker, but volunteered her services for 20 years as Sacristan at St. Louis of France Church in La Puente, California. In her latter years of her life, she was the Sacristan for over 20 years St. Boniface Catholic Church in Fort Smith. Paulette was known for her beautiful banners that still can be seen in area churches and also for her hand crafted Christmas nativity scene that was on display in her apartment for the public to see. Many of the St. Boniface school children can remember going over to see Paulette's Christmas nativity and Santa's village. Paulette was also featured on the front page of the religion section Times Record on December 21, 1996, showing some of her beautiful Bethlehem city.
Memorial mass service will be 10:30 a.m. Monday, February 10th, at St. Boniface Catholic Church in Fort Smith, with Father Bill Elsner officiating. Burial of cremains will be at Sacred Heart Cemetery in Charleston. Cremation services are under the direction of Brotherton Brothers Funeral Home in Charleston.
She is survived by two daughters, Nancy Cameron and husband Ray of Charleston and Shirley Schuman of Glendale, Arizona; one sister, Jeanne Chretien of France; three grandchildren, Monica Hutchins of Branch, Gary Schuman of San Jose, California, and Andrea Kinser of Maryland, Virginia; five great-grandchildren.
