LOWELL — Haskell Edison Jackson, 82, of Lowell passed from this life following a courageous battle with pancreatic cancer on Aug. 3, 2014, at the Earlene Howard Hospice House, surrounded by his loving family. He was born Dec. 12, 1931, in the Aurora Community of Madison County, Ark., to Erman W. and Reba Garrett Jackson.

He married Marlene Ball Edwards on Dec. 22, 1956,
with Joe L. Banks performing the ceremony at the Center St. Church of Christ in Fayetteville, Ark.

He was a longtime member of the Church of Christ, beginning his Christian journey in 1952. He became an esteemed Bible teacher and Biblical scholar over more than a half century while he worked and worshipped with the Robinson Avenue Church of Christ in Springdale, Ark., and served as an elder there for 28 years.

The first six years of his elementary school education were in one-room country schools in Madison County, Ark. Haskell continued his education briefly in Omak, Wash., and when his family moved back to Arkansas, he spent his high school years at Huntsville High School, from which he graduated in 1950. After graduation, he went to Sweet Home, Ore., worked in the log woods for five seasons and attended the University of Oregon. He continued his higher education at Abilene Christian College in Texas, and the University of Arkansas where he received a BS,BA degree in accounting in 1956.

Haskell's first job after graduating was with the Phillips Petroleum Co. in Bartlesville, Okla., as an accountant in natural gas and sales. In 1960, an offer from Don Tyson to come work for Tyson Inc. brought him to Springdale, where he became controller/secretary for that company and where he remained for 18 years. He was instrumental in setting up their data processing department while there. Following that tenure, he worked for George's Inc. as controller/secretary and held that position for 18 years until he retired in 1996.

He spent his leisure hours, especially in retirement, in woodworking, religious reading, writing and gardening. He also enjoyed fishing and traveling with his beloved wife.

He is survived by his wife of 57 years, Marlene Jackson of the home; two sons, Gary Edwards of Lowell, Ark., and Randy Jackson and wife, Lisa, of Jenks, Okla.; six grandchildren, Ryan and Stuart Jackson of Fayetteville, Reese Jackson and wife, Ellen, of Jyvaskyla, Finland, Mary Beth Jackson of Jenks, Okla., Andrew Edwards of Gravette, Ark., and Phillip Edwards and wife, Kim, and two great-granddaughters, Violet Jane Edwards and Estelle Rose Edwards, of Fargo, N.D.; a brother, Clayton Jackson of Omak, Wash.; and five very loving nieces, and a host of friends.

He was preceded in death by his parents; an infant daughter, Jana Kaye Jackson; brothers, Jessie and Gerald Jackson; and a sister, Crystal Parker.

Funeral services are in charge of the Sisco Funeral Chapel, Springdale, Ark., and will be held Thursday, Aug. 7, 2014, at 10 a.m. at the Robinson Avenue Church of Christ in Springdale, with Harry Fitzgerald and Keith Kilmer officiating. Burial will follow at Fairview Memorial Gardens in Fayetteville.

Visitation will be 5 to 7 p.m. Wednesday at Sisco Funeral Chapel of Springdale.

The family wishes to give special thanks to the doctors and nurses who cared for Haskell during his illness: Dr. David Ratcliff and his nurse Vicki Hopkins in Fayetteville, and the doctors and nurses at the Earlene Howard Circle of Life Hospice in Springdale, especially Dr. Terry Sutterfield, and longtime nurse Pamela Falcinelli.

In lieu of flowers, memorials may be made to the Earlene Howard Circle of Life Hospice House, 901 Jones Road, Springdale, AR 72762; or to Robinson Avenue Church of Christ, 1506 W. Robinson Ave., Springdale, AR 72764.
