Ella B. COATES Sanders was the wife of Erasmus Isaiah Sanders (1837-1925), married February 12, 1877, in Chicot County, Arkansas. The marriage license shows that Erasmus was age 39 and Ella was age 16 when they married. Erasmus' first wife had died and he already had two sons. Ella was the mother of 12 or 13 children.

Ella's tombstone shows she was born in 1869 which is incorrect - she was born in 1859. Her first child, Grace, was born in 1878 so if she was born in 1869 as the tombstone shows, she would have only been 9 years old when Grace was born.

Obituary: Madison County Democrat, 16 June 1911, from The St. Paul Mountain Air
Mrs. Sanders, mother of Mrs. Chas. Crawford of Pettigrew, dropped dead while sitting in her chair at the family home in North Franklin County, a few miles South of St. Paul, Monday afternoon. Heart failure is supposed to be the cause. (Charles Crawford was a Banker in both Pettigrew & St. Paul, both in Madison County, Arkansas.)

Ella was buried in the back yard of the old homeplace where she and Erasmus lived; and that was homesteaded in 1897. Erasmus Sanders' homestead was: the West Half of the Northwest Quarter, 80 acres; and the Southeast Quarter of the Northwest Quarter, 40 acres; and the Northeast Quarter of the Southwest Quarter, 40 acres; all in Section 36, Township 13 North, Range 27 West, in Franklin County, Arkansas.
