George Nichols, 71, of Ozark died Friday, Feb. 6, 2004, in Fort Smith. He was a Baptist, a surveyor for 36 years, a Franklin County surveyor for 26 years, a farmer, a Navy veteran of the Korean War and a member of the Arkansas Horseshoe Association. Funeral will be 10 a.m. Tuesday at Shaffer Funeral Home Chapel in Ozark with burial at Mountain View Cemetery in Ozark. He is survived by his wife, Bernice Childers Nichols; a daughter, Phyllis Archer of Ozark; three sons, George Nichols Jr., John Nichols and Orval Nichols, all of Ozark; a brother, Robert Nichols of Ozark; eight grandchildren and two great-grandchildren. The body may be viewed from 6:30 to 8:30 p.m. Monday. Times Record Online

Bernice D. Nichols, 80 of Ozark, Arkansas, died Thursday, March 1, 2012 in Fort Smith, Arkansas. She was a Baptist, a homemaker, worked in housekeeping at the Ozark Hospital and worked several years at Model Café in Ozark. She lived on Barnes Mountain for seventy six years. She was born November 7, 1931 in Barnes Mountain Community to Demus and Bonnie Hopper Childers. She was preceded in death by her husband George Nichols, Sr.; two brothers, Seldon and Elton Childers.

Funeral service will be held at 10:00 AM, Tuesday, March 6, 2012 at Shaffer Funeral Home Chapel with Reverend Kendall Ross officiating with burial at Mt. View Cemetery in Ozark, under the direction of Shaffer Funeral Home.

She is survived one daughter, Phyllis Archer and husband Richard of Ozark; three sons, Orval Nichols and wife Barbara, George Nichols, Jr. and wife, Rachelle and John Nichols all of Ozark; two sisters, Betty Ruth Rodocker of Cleveland, Oklahoma and Janet Knox and husband Larry of Warrenton, Missouri; five grandchildren, George Nichols, III, Trinity Nichols and Alan Nichols all of Ozark and Brittny Honea of Paris, Arkansas and Cassie Archer of Hunttown, Arkansas and two great grandchildren, Hayden Dawn Davidson and Isaiah Honea.

The family will visit with friends 6:00 – 8:00 PM, Monday, March 5, 2012 at Shaffer Funeral Home 2315 W. Commercial in Ozark.
