AVOCA — Gene Alfred Letteer, 87, of Avoca, Ark., passed away Oct. 10, 2013, in Rogers. He grew up on an 80-acre farm north of town and returned after retirement to spend his last 32 years there.
Mr. Letteer graduated from Rogers High School then served in the Army Air Corps during World War II, finishing with deployment in Japan after its surrender.
After the war, he earned a degree in electrical engineering from the University of Oklahoma. He worked for General Dynamics and Bell Helicopter in Fort Worth and Boeing Co. in Wichita, Kan.
In 1948, he married Margaret Creech of Rogers. The couple had four children.
After retirement, they moved back to the farm near Avoca, where Mr. Letteer was active in the Eager Beavers Camping Club, the National Rifle Association, and were instrumental in rebuilding the Brightwater Memorial United Methodist Church of Rogers after it suffered a devastating fire.
He was preceded in death by parents, Guy and Charlotte Letteer, brothers, Walter and Paul; sister, Ruth; and sons, Gene Jr. and James Letteer.
He is survived by wife, Margaret; daughter, Mary Smith of Fort Worth; and son, Charles of Azle, Texas. He also is survived by grandchildren, Winn and Garold LaRue and Gene Alexander Letteer.
Funeral services will be held at 3 p.m. today, Oct. 12, at Stockdale-Moody Funeral Services in Rogers, with the Rev. Brian Timmons officiating. Private burial will be at Rogers Cemetery.
Memorials may be made to Brightwater Memorial United Methodist Church.
Arrangements have been entrusted to Stockdale-Moody Funeral Services.

AVOCA — Mary Margaret Letteer, 89, of Avoca, Ark., passed away Tuesday, Feb. 21, 2017. She was preceded in death by husband, Gene A. Letteer and two sons, Gene, Jr. and James Letteer. Survivors; daughter, Mary Smith of Fort Worth, Texas; son, Charles Letteer of Azle, Texas; sister, Dorothy Satterfield; and three grandchildren, Garold LaRue III, Winn LaRue and Gene Alexander Letteer. Funeral: 1 p.m., Friday, Feb. 24, 2017, at Stockdale-Moody Funeral Services in Rogers with burial at Rogers Cemetery. Arrangements by Stockdale-Moody Funeral Services.
