Wife of Glen McKinney
Wilma Christine McKinney, 87, of Ozark, Arkansas, died Monday, November 24, 2014 in Charleston, AR.
She was born February 10, 1927 in Ozark to the union of Walter and Mildred Perry Earp.
She was a member of the Oak Bend Missionary Baptist Church in Ozark.
She is preceded in death by her husband, Glen McKinney; a sister Allyne Clark; and a brother Paul Earp.
She graduated from Ozark High School at the age of 16 and met her husband, Glen, shortly thereafter. They married in December of 1944 and had their daughter Charlotte the following year. She was a proud military wife and enjoyed their various assignments, particularly in Okinawa, Japan and White Sands Missile Range, New Mexico. She was a career woman who had a long history in management. She directed operation of a branch bank, a dry cleaners, and managed the Cargill Feed Mill for a number of years.
She was an excellent listener and had regular coffee chats with friends around her kitchen table. Cooking and sewing were two of her favorite pastimes and she was quite accomplished at both. After she moved to Greenhurst Nursing Center she discovered that she liked to read and she also enjoyed participating in all the activities there. Her family was extremely important to her and she loved spending time with them.
She is survived by her daughter Charlotte McElroy and husband Jerry of Ozark; two grandchildren, Kelli Wheeler and husband Darrel of Greenwood, Arkansas, and Duane McElroy and wife Allison of Rogers, Arkansas; four great grandchildren, Ross and Reid Wheeler of Greenwood and Cooper and Barret McElroy of Rogers.
Funeral services will be held at 2:00 PM Friday, November 28, 2014 at Shaffer Funeral Home Chapel with Brother Carroll Squires officiating, and interment at Cemetery Ridge Cemetery, under direction of Shaffer Funeral Home of Ozark.
Serving as pallbearers are Jerry and Duane McElroy, Ross and Reid Wheeler, Larry and Courtney Sory. Honorary pallbearers are Greenhurst Staff and Darrel Wheeler.
