SAMPSON, James Oliver - Funeral services were held Sunday afternoon at the family home on South Main street, Bentonville for J.O. Sampson, who died Saturday morning at the age of eighty years. The services were conducted by Rev. O.A. Fortune, pastor of the M.E. church and Rev. J.D. Allen of the Baptist church. The services were largely attended. Burial was made in the City Cemetery by the side of his wife who passed away on August 15. He had been troubled with heart disease for a number of years and following the death of his wife and faithful companion of 56 years, which occurred just three weeks and five days before his death, he succumbed to a complication of diseases. James Oliver Sampson was born in Zionville, Ind. July 6, 1847. He later moved with his parents to Hebron, Ind. where he lived until the Civil war broke out. He enlisted in the Fifth Indiana cavalry and served in several important engagements. After the war he returned to Hebron where he married Miss Sarah Jane Doty. To them were born six children, all of whom are dead excepting Miss Ella Sampson of the home address. In 1880 Mr. Sampson and his family moved to Turon, Kansas where they lived 27 years. They came to Bentonville in 1907 which has since been their home.
