Benton County Democrat

ORR, Samuel - Samuel Orr was born in Walker county, Ga. March 18th, 1876 and died at his home in Bentonville, Ark. Sept. 30, 1909 at 5 a.m., aged thirty-three years, six months and twelve days. He came with his parents to Arkansas when only a babe and has made Benton county his home most of the time since. He was married to Miss Erma Merithew at Carthage, Mo. Dec. 24th, 1906. To this union was born one sweet babe, little Wiley Earl, whom his father loved with an ardent affection. After his marriage he resided at Carterville, Mo. until his health began to fail when he returned to Bentonville. He was a victim of that dreaded disease, consumption. He suffered long but was patient throughout it all. No word of complaint did he speak. The last few days of his life were especially days of great suffering but he endured with great courage. He was hopeful of his recovery until a few days before his death. He made no public profession of faith in Christ until a few hours before his death, when he said to his father: "I have made everything right for the future. I do not fear death nor the future. I dislike to leave my loved ones, especially my baby, but my time has come to go and I submit. Take care of my wife and baby. Teach my baby to remember me and bring him up to be a useful man." This was the last message that he left to his loved ones and what heritage could he have left that would bring greater joy to their aching hearts? He leaves his companion, sweet babe, father, step-mother, two brothers, two sisters and many other friends to mourn for him. May God richly bless you all. The funeral was conducted at the family residence and his body was interred in the City Cemetery by the Knights of Pythias. R.E.L. Bearden.
