June 17, 1959 - November 20, 1966

James Michael Cranford, aged 7 of 335 Ingram Street, East Camden was fatally shot Sunday by his grandfather, John King in a hunting mishap about 12 miles north of Camden off Highway 7, according to officers Harold Cranford, 35, the victim's father was also wounded, but not seriously. Officers said the three were squirrel hunting and Michael and his father were walking through some high grass and stepped into the path of a hot fired by King who was shooting at a squirrel. The youth was rushed to the Ouachita Hospital but was pronounced dead on arrival. Mr. Cranford was treated in the emergency room and released. Besides his parents, Mr. and Mrs. Harold Cranford, he is survived by two sisters, Pamela Jo and Crystal Ann; his grandparents, Mr. and Mrs. L. R. Cranford of Harmony Grove and Mr. and Mrs. John King of Holly Springs. Funeral services will be held Tuesday afternoon at 2 p.m. in the Warner Springs Assembly of God Church, Harmony Grove, with burial in Liberty Cemetery near Louann. Proctor Funeral Home is in charge of arrangements. (Camden News - November 21, 1966)
