January 28, 1956 - May 23, 1974
El Dorado - A 17 year old Smackover youth was killed early Thursday morning by a hit and run driver some two miles north of El Dorado on Highway 7. The Union County Coroner's Office listed the victim as Clifford T. Fowler of P.O. Box 246 Smackover. Deputy Coroner Mike Dumas said Fowler suffered a severe head injury and broken leg after he was struck by an automobile while apparently walking north on highway 7. The Union County Sheriff's Office and Arkansas State Police began an intensive investigation into the death of Fowler early Thursday. State Trooper Dudley Leamons and Deputy Sheriff David Vines said the death took place in light fog about 2:45 a.m. Fowler was reportedly walking north with a companion Dean Marine Jr., of P. O. Box 805 El Dorado. Marine told officers he didn't see the car strike the victim. Funeral arrangements will be announced by Rumph Mortuary of El Dorado. (Camden News - May 23, 1974)
