Alvin Mitchell, Jr., 86, of Kensett, AR., died Friday, October 26, 2012, at the Oakdale Nursing Home.

He was born March 24, 1926, in Aberdeen, Mississippi, a son of the late Alvin and Ossie Mae Howell Mitchell.

Alvin retired from the Union Pacific Railroad after many years of service and enjoyed life to the fullest.

He is survived by 3 sons, Eric Mitchell of Vacaville, California, Danny Brooks of Omaha, Nebraska and Donnie Haynes of Little Rock; 7 daughters, Tammy Mitchell and Dorothy Mitchell both of Oakland, California, Opal Mitchell of Las Vegas, Nevada, Connie Mitchell of Ft. Worth, Texas, Shirley Young of Judsonia, Netra Washington of Kensett and Patricia Pettis of LaPlace, Louisiana; step-daughter, Betty Bailey-Shirriel of San Pablo, California; 3 sisters, Francis Mitchell and Lillie Mitchell both of Hot Springs and Ola Mae Cowan of Kensett; a host of grandchildren, nieces and nephews.

He was preceded in death by 2 sons, James Edward Mitchell and Larry Mitchell; sister, Louise Mitchell and 2 brothers, Wesley and Leo Mitchell.

Services were at the Powell Funeral Home Chapel in Bald Knob. Interment was in Crow Cemetery by Powell Funeral Home, Bald Knob-Judsonia.
