Joel Dean “Jay” Martin of Calico Rock, Arkansas.
Joel Dean “Jay” Martin, son of the late Joel Jefferson Martin and Delphia Branscum Martin, was born December 24, 1937 in Culp, Arkansas. He departed this life June 18, 2016 in Culp, Arkansas at the age of 78 years, 5 months and 18 days. In 1958 he was united in marriage to Barbara Lester and to this union three children were born. He spent his life as a loving son, brother, husband, father, grandfather, great grandfather, provider and friend. He retired from Mammoth Spring High School after 35 years of teaching science. He was of the Baptist faith.
He is survived by his wife of 58 years: Barbara Martin of the home; two sons and two daughters-in-law: Rick and Donna Martin of Thayer, Missouri and Micky and Lauree of Bryan, Texas; one daughter and son-in-law: Susie and John Kenslow of West Plains, Missouri; two brothers: Francis Martin of Culp and Larnel Martin of Rich Hill, Missouri; two sisters: Alma Staggs of Optimus and Vada Lester of Calico Rock; eight grandchildren: Ashley Hanna, Kristen White, Luke Martin, Brandon Martin, Courtney Risner, Corbin Russell, Chelsea Orchard and Macy Martin; ten great grandchildren: Hayleigh Martin, Dayton McCormick, Ayden Crampton, Braelyn Eckman, Brooklyn White, Brenner White, Weston Martin, Rorie Risner, Gannon Burris and Carson Russell and a host of other relatives and many good friends. He was preceded in death by his parents; one sister: Lois Pinkston and his stepmother: Erma Martin.
Funeral service will be Tuesday, June 21 at 10 a.m. at Calico Rock Funeral Chapel. Burial will be at Table Rock Cemetery under the direction of Eddie's Family Funeral Home in Calico Rock. Visitation will be Monday, June 20 from 6-8 p.m.
In lieu of flowers, memorials may be made to: Mammoth Spring High School Science Department, 401 Goldsmith Avenue, Mammoth Spring, AR 72554.
Pallbearers: Luke Martin, Corbin Russell, Seth Risner, Trent White, Brandin Orchard and Brandon Martin.
Honorary Pallbearers: Francis Martin, Keith Chism, Clifford Chism and Tony Hanna.
