Jewell Dean (Hooten) Karber, 89, of Quitman passed away Friday, September 23, 2016. She was born February 13, 1927 in Guy, AR to the late Ernest E. and Daphne E. (Thorn) Hooten. Jewel was also preceded in death by her husband of 64 years, James Noel Karber, brother, Herbert Hooten, and sister, Shirley Ann Hooten.

Jewell was of the Church of Christ of faith and retired from Westinghouse-Phillips Electric after 33 years of employment. She enjoyed quilting, crocheting, skiing, fishing, and gardening. Jewell was a good homemaker and the hub of her family. She had a gift of hospitality and loved serving others.

Jewel is survived by her daughter, Linda Hearn of Quitman, AR, granddaughter, Deb Schueren-Bloomer (Bo) of Arlington, VA, grandson, Allen Schueren (Denise) of Heber Springs, AR, great-grandchildren, Chance, and Hope Schueren, and Vlad and Aya Bloomer, brother, Clark Hooten (Faye) of Guy, foster brother, Curtis Burgess (Martha) of Guy, and numerous nieces and nephews.

Funeral services will be held at 1:00 p.m. Sunday September 25th at Roller-McNutt Funeral Home in Greenbrier, with visitation one hour prior to the service. Burial will follow at Old Texas Cemetery in Quitman.


James Noel Karber, 85, of Quitman, passed away February 14, 2009 in Conway. He was born in Quitman on December 20, 1923 to the late Herbert and Rachel (Fowler) Karber.
Mr. Karber was a retired truck driver from Southwestern Transportation, after 28 years of service.
He is survived by his loving wife of 64 years, Jewell Dean (Hooten) Karber; daughter, Linda Hearn of Quitman, Arkansas; grandson, Allen and wife Denise Schueren of Heber Springs, Arkansas; granddaughter, Debbie and Bo Bloomer of Aviano Air Force Base, Italy; four grandchildren, Chance Schueren, Hope Schueren, Vlad Bloomer, and Aya Bloomer; four sisters, Adele Pratt, Annette Rowlett, and Caroline Wiedower of Guy, Arkansas, and Meredith Luce of Greenbrier, Arkansas; and many nieces, nephews, cousins, and friends.
In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by a sister, Cora Lee Tucker; and a brother, Hubert Karber.
Service will be held at 1:00 p.m., on Tuesday, February 17, 2009 at Roller-McNutt Funeral Home, Greenbrier, with visitation one hour prior to service. Burial will follow at Old Texas Cemetery in Quitman with Jim Rowlett, Gary Tucker, Tom Schueren, Chance Schueren, Greg Hooten, and Brian Hooten, serving as pallbearers.
