LOCATION: Mattie Hand Gravesite is located S of Little Rock and W of Hensley on Deerwood Drive. From Little Rock travel south on I530 to Exit 10. Travel on Highway 167 SW approximately 3.8 miles to the intersection of Highway 167 and Spring Lake Rd. Take Spring Lake Rd. 1.1 miles S where Spring Lake Rd. turns left and head E. Travel a little less than a half mile to Deerwood Drive. Drive to 2332 Deerwood Dr. and the single headstone sits on a little rise next to the pavement on the left side.

LEGAL: Located in the S 1/2 of the NW ¼ of Section 28, Township 2 South, Range 12 West.

CONDITION: Located on the side of the street. Being well maintained and has had plants and a rose planted recently. Charlotte Ramsey photos (1995) show the headstone in a wooded area, does not look like the setting it presently is in. This stone might have been moved or the subdivision and road is new, trying to contact current property owner. Deerwood Drive is shown on the 1987 USGS TOPO map.

AGE: Earliest grave is 1900 and most recent 1900

FAMILY HISTORY: Mattie comes from a large family. She had eight siblings. Her parents Thomas and Matilda Jarret Hand are both buried in Mulberry Cemetery, England, Lonoke County, AR.
