John Robert Sanderson, 64, of Searcy, went to be with the Lord, Sunday, March 7, 2010. He was born June 27, 1945 to the late John Henry Sanderson of Selma, Alabama and Ethel O'Dell Cato of Searcy, Arkansas. John was a member of the Optimist Club of Searcy where he was known as "football man" and "Christmas tree man." He had traveled extensively and visited all 50 states. John had taught Sunday School for all ages since he was a teenager at Center Hill Missionary Baptist Church as well as the Park Avenue Missionary Baptist Church in Searcy where he served as deacon. John's favorite book of the Bible was John. John chapter 17 was his favorite chapter because Jesus prayed for him in that chapter - Verse 20 - "Neither pray I for these alone, but for them also which shall believe on me through their word."
"Big John" was an avid sports and Razorback Football Fan. His motto was "Keep on preaching even if you have to use words.
He is survived by his wife, Lois (Bedwell) Sanderson, whom he married January 18, 1964. John thought she was the prettiest girl at Searcy High School in 1963. He is also survived by a daughter, Lucinda Marie (Cindy) Burson and a son, John Darren Sanderson; 3 grandchildren, Ethan, Grant and Benjamin Burson; 2 brothers, Clifford Sanderson of Selma, Alabama and Richard Sanderson of Flowery Branch, Georgia.
He was preceded in death by 3 brothers, Donal Sanderson of Hickory Plains and David Elliott and James Brinkley both of Searcy.
A memorial service honoring the "Blessed" life of John Sanderson will be held Thursday, March 11, 2010 at 2:00 p.m. at Park Avenue Missionary Baptist Church. Bro Keith Lunceford and Bro Jesse Burkett will officiate. Honorary Pallbearers will be Randy Stiles, Tom Babb, Bobby Quattlebaum, Steve Miller, Wilbur Stevens, Chuck Roach, Joe Sledge and Jimmy Lawson. In lieu of flowers, memorials can be made to the Park Avenue Missionary Baptist Church Youth, 211 East Park Avenue, Searcy, Arkansas 72143.
