Obituary

Long-time Mountain View resident, Leroy “Roy” Taylor Brown Jr., 87 passed away peacefully on February 9, 2016 surrounded by his family and friends at White River Medical Center in Batesville, Arkansas.

Roy was born on April 8, 1928 to the late Leroy Taylor Brown Sr., and Ethel May (Smith) Brown in Wood River Illinois.

Roy was a veteran of the United States Navy and served during World War II. Roy was also a 40-year member of the American Legion Chapter 430 in Mountain View, Arkansas. Roy worked for Caterpillar Tractor Company for 40 years until his retirement in 1982.
Roy Loved fishing, camping, woodcarving, traveling and the great outdoors. He took great pride in his gardening skills and his bountiful gardens. He and his wife Marjeta were famous for the vegetables grown in their gardens and sharing the bounty with friends and family.

One of Roy’s biggest pleasures was sitting outside and spinning yarns with family and friends. Roy was famous for his tall tales.

He was a Poll Sheriff for many years in Stone County and took pride in maintaining fair and honest elections.

Roy was also a devoted member of the Eastside Church of Christ. In the summer of 1969, Roy helped in the construction of the church building.

Roy is survived by his loving wife of over 66 years, Maleta Marjeta Brown, of Mountain View Arkansas; one son, Leroy Lee Brown and wife Carol Ann of Henderson, Nevada; one brother, Bill Brown of Chicago, Illinois; one granddaughter, Melissa Nichole Mansfield and husband Michael of Eureka, California; one grandson, Shawn Michael Brown and wife, Christina of Henderson, Nevada; one great- grandson, Aiden Sequalia Mansfield of Eureka, California; and many brother and sister-in laws, as well as numerous nieces and nephews.

Roy is preceded in death by his parents Leroy Taylor Brown Sr. and Ethel May Smith; as well as brothers, John, Richard, Jim, Jack, and sister, Eileen Gann.

A visitation will take place on Thursday, February 11, 2016 from 1-2 pm at Roller Coffman Chapel in Mountain View, Arkansas. Funeral services will follow the visitation beginning at 2:00 pm with Brother Gordon Grammer and Harold Fite officiating. Interment will be at Flatwoods Cemetery in Mountain View, Arkansas following the services.

Pallbearers are John Barham, Neal Richardson, Ryan Richardson, Gerald Sutton, Brent Craig, and Trent Branscum. Honorary pallbearers are Jerry Sutton, Ed Sutton, Lyndall Sutton, Keith Sutton, Daniel Ferren, Donald Barham, John Scroggins, and Bryan Craig, also the men from Eastside Church of Christ.

In lieu of flowers, you may make donations to Cove Cemetery- Flatwoods Cemetery- Stone County Historical Society or the Stone County Humane Society.
