Shelby “Jo” Lea Rood, age 79, of Malvern went to be with the Lord on Sunday, May 29, 2016 at Arkansas Hospice in Hot Springs. She was born January 16, 1937, in Tulip, Arkansas to Ira E. Lea and Edna Green Lea. She was a retired school teacher and retired after 43 years from Malvern School District. She was a member of Damascus Missionary Baptist Church where she served as a Sunday school teacher and treasurer for many years. She enjoyed traveling, working crossword puzzles and hosting annual Thanksgiving dinners. She loved doting on her three grandchildren. Other than her parents, she is preceded in death by her husband, H.C. Rood, Jr. and seven siblings.
She is survived by her sons, Doug C. Rood (Sheridan) and Don Rood (Jennifer) both of Malvern; three grandchildren, Kelsey Rood, Patrick Rood and Maggie Rood; brother, Wayne Lea (Virginia) of Malvern as well as a host of nieces, nephews and cousins.
In lieu of flowers, donations can be made to Damascus Cemetery Fund, Arthritis Foundation or the Lupus Foundation of Arkansas.
Visitation will be Wednesday, June 1 from 6:00-8:00pm at Regency Funeral Home.
Funeral Service will be Thursday, June 2 at 2:00pm at Regency Funeral Home with Robbie McDonald and Brother Rickey Poyner officiating. Burial will be at Tulip Cemetery. Pallbearers will be Jeff Jones, Bennie Chastain, Chuck Lea, Don Lea, Warren Black and Bud Rybard. Honorary pallbearer is Don Phillips, and the Ladies Sunday School Class at Damascus Missionary Baptist Church.
The family would like to give a special thanks to the staff of CHI- St. Vincent ICU, Arkansas Hospice, Damascus Missionary Baptist Church members and Mt. Zion Missionary Baptist Church members.
