Glenn Ervin Avra, 90, of Nacogdoches, Texas died at his home on Tuesday, January 16, 2024, from complications of metastatic melanoma. Private services will be held for family at Roller McNutt Funeral Home in Conway, Arkansas with internment at Beryl Cemetery.

Glenn was born December 26, 1933, in Beryl, Faulkner County, Arkansas to Heber Avra and Valree Fugatt Avra. He and his sister, Linda, were raised on the Avra's farm and helped their father with the family business, Beryl Grocery Store.

After graduating from Vilonia High School in 1951, Glenn served until 1953 as a U.S. Army Specialist 5 (later called Sargent) in the Korean War. After the war, Glenn attended the University of Oklahoma and graduated with a Bachelor of Science in Petroleum Engineering in 1960. Glenn met Florilla Donaldson while working in Dallas and married her on June 17, 1961. They were married for 50 years-parting when she passed away in 2011.

Glenn worked as a safety consultant for Liberty Mutual Insurance Company for over 30 years, retiring in 1992. The family resided in Kingwood, Texas for 50 years.

A devout Christian, Glenn was baptized on August 22, 1943, at Beryl Baptist Church in Faulkner County, Arkansas. After settling in Kingwood, Texas, he joined Second Baptist Church (formerly known as Forest Cove Baptist Church) where he was a member for 50 years. Glenn was first ordained as a deacon in 1965 at Baring Cross Baptist Church, North Little Rock, Arkansas and continued this service at Forest Cove Baptist Church and later Second Baptist Church. After moving to Nacogdoches in 2022 he joined First Baptist Church of Nacogdoches where he very much enjoyed attending the Kerr Sunday School class.

Glenn was preceded in death by his wife, Florilla Donaldson Avra; his parents, Valree and Heber Avra; his sister, Linda Bryant, and her husband Jim. He is survived by his three sons and their families: Christopher T. Avra and his wife, Donna of Nacogdoches, Texas; Gregory A. Avra and his wife Robin of Midland, Texas; Jeffrey D. Avra and his wife, Lisa, of Austin, Texas; grandchildren Erin and Seth Harper of Dallas, Texas; Courtney Avra of Nacogdoches, Texas; Cory Avra of Dallas, Texas; Tyler Avra of Loveland, Colorado; Katye Avra of Grand Prairie, Texas; Bryce Avra and his fiancée, Lynnee Gamboa, of Midland, Texas; Scott McWhorter and his wife, Emily Cole, of Dallas; Griffin Avra of Austin, Texas; Jordan Avra of Dallas, Texas; and great grandchildren Layne, Rylee and baby boy Harper of Dallas, Texas; as well as several nieces and nephews.

Glenn's family deeply appreciates the many doctors, nurses, and caregivers who assisted him during his illness, especially the staff at Visiting Angels of Lufkin and Harbor Hospice for their kind, attentive and tender care.

Florilla Donaldson Avra of Kingwood, Texas, formerly of North Little Rock, Arkansas, was born April 20, 1934 in Haywood County, North Carolina to Jacob Lawrence Donaldson and Lydia Bell Looper Donaldson. She passed away on November 11, 2011. Flo was a past member of the Beta Sigma Phi Sorority and of the American Business Women's Association. Flo has served as Sunday School Teacher at previous Baptist churches and Media Center director at Forest Cove Baptist Church (now Second Baptist Church) where she has been a member for 39 years. Florilla has lived in Texas for 39 years.

Florilla married Glenn Ervin Avra on June 17, 1951 and they were married over 50 years.

Mrs. Avra was preceded in death by her parents, Jacob and Lydia Donaldson; one sister, Mary Sellers; and two brothers. William Henry Donaldson and Clarence M. Donaldson. She is survived by her husband, Glenn and sons, Christopher T. Avra and wife Donna of Humble, Texas; Gregory A. Avra and wife Robin of Humble, Texas; Jeffrey D. Avra and wife Lisa of Austin, Texas and 9 grandchildren: Erin, Courtney, Cory, Tyler, Katye, Bryce, Scott, Griffin and Jordan; as well as two sisters: Frances Crowson of Canton, NC and Catherine Lockert of Greenville, Texas, and one brother: James Donaldson of Knoxville, Tennessee.

Funeral service will be 1:00pm, Monday, November 14, 2011 in the chapel of Roller-McNutt Funeral Home of Conway (501)327-7727, with Brother Michael Himes officiating. Visitation will begin at 12:00 noon on Monday and continue until service time. Interment will be in the Beryl Cemetery in Vilonia.

Pallbearers will be Chris Avra, Greg Avra, Jeff Avra, Cory Avra, Tyler Avra and Griffin Avra.
