Tressie Merlene Avra, age 90 of Vilonia, Arkansas died Wednesday, January 3rd, 2007. She was born in Wooster, Arkansas, September 8th, 1916 to the late Ambrose and Gladys Joyner Lea. She was preceded in death by her husband of 49 years: Felix Avra, her brothers: DeeWitt, Winfred, and Bo Lea; her sisters: Iva Jean Culbertson and Opal Flowers. Tressie retired from the Vilonia School System as a cook after 54 years of employment also receiving an accommodation from then President Clinton for that achievement. She was the oldest member of the Beryl Baptist Church of Vilonia and was a woman who truly loved her family from her daughter through her great-grandchildren. Attending any event that included a member of her family from ball games to family functions. She is already missed. She is survived by her daughter: Patsy York and her husband Hestel of Vilonia; her grandchildren: Rhonda Warford and her husband Nick of Benton; Regina Oakley and her husband Steve, Shelly McCain and her husband Harold both of Vilonia; and great-grandchildren: Heath and Rachel Oakley, Jessie and Clint Phifer, Jared Warford and Kyla McCain. Funeral services will be Friday, 10:00 a.m., January 5th at Roller McNutt Funeral Home of Conway (501.327.7727) officiated by Rev. Gary Pridmore and Rev. Jerry Culbertson with burial in Beryl Cemetery. Visitation will be from 6-8 pm Thursday. Pallbearers will be: Jeff Ruple, Don Avra, Steve Oakley, Harold McCain, Nick Warford and Clint Phifer. Honorary pallbearers are: The Deacons of Beryl Baptist Church.
