Mrs. Caroline Thornton, aged 82, of 211 California Avenue, widow of Thomas I. Thornton died in a local hospital at 4:15 p.m. Friday. Mrs. Thornton was born at Martin, Tennessee, June 1, 1879, the daughter of Baldwin A. and Susan Frances Pegram Crawford. She moved to Camden at an early sage and has lived here since that time. She was a member of the First Methodist Church. Mr. Thornton, who was a well known lawyer and Alderman here for many years, died in 1950. Survivors include a son, Thomas M. Thornton of Camden; a grandson, McFall Thornton of Camden; and a number of nieces and nephews including Mrs. Sadler Martin, and Clyde Crawford both of Camden. Funeral services will be at 3:00 p.m. Sunday at the First Methodist Church, conducted by Dr. Roy I. Bagley, and Rev. Ben Bracken. Burial will be in Greenwood Cemetery by Proctor Funeral Home. Casket bearers are Asa Morgan, Alton Mashaw, Ellord Anders, W. R. Holleman, Jim Wiseman, and Jimmy Hollis. (Camden News - July 30, 1961)
