September 25, 1870 - March 25, 1955
Mrs. J. D. Stephens, age 84, resident of Camden and Cullendale for the past 28 years died at the home of a daughter, Mrs. Maude Lawson in Cullendale at 12:45 p.m. on Friday. Mrs. Stephens was born September 25, 1870 in Nevada County, Arkansas, the daughter of John and Nancy Hollingsworth Almand. She was the widow of James David Stephens who preceeded her in death in 1946. She was a member of the Fairview Methodist Church. Survivors include five daughters, Mrs. Maude Lawson, Mrs. C. H. Belk, Mrs. Newton Mathews, of Cullendale; Mrs. G. C. Hudgens of Beaumont, Texas, and Mrs. R. C. McLain of Quanah, Texas; one son, M.A. Stephens of Past Christian, Miss., two sisters, Mrs. Sally Ponder and Mrs. Willie Sutton both of Phoenix, Ari.; one brother, John Almand of Rosston, Ark., 13 grandchildren, 13 great grandchildren, and one great great grandchild. Funeral services will be held at 2:00 p.m. Sunday at the Fairview Methodist Church by Rev. James Simpson, pastor. Burial will be in Greenwood cemetery by Proctor Funeral Home. The body was taken to the home of a daughter, Mrs. C. H. Belk at Cullendale, where it will remain until funeral time. (Camden News - March 26, 1955)
