January 17, 1930 - December 9, 1967
Springhill - Dr. R. Edward Sawyer, 37, of Santa Ana, Calif., died in a Springhill hospital Saturday afternoon after an illness of two months. Dr. Sawyer had lived in the home of his parents here since recent surgery at M. D. Anderson Hospital in Houston. A native of Camden, Ark., Dr. Sawyer was a 1946 graduate of Springhill High School. He recieved his B.S. Degree from Louisiana State University in the LSU Medical School in 1954. Following his residency at New Orleans, Dr. Sawyer joined the Air Force and was a major at completion of his service. He had practiced in Orange, Calif, until his recent illness. Funeral services will be held at 1:30 p.m. today in the Springhill Presbyterian Church with the Rev. William Hefelfinger and the Rev. James W. Sawyer officiating. Burial will be in the Greenwood Cemetery in Camden, Ark. Survivors in addition to his parents, include his widow; three daughters, Cynthia Lee Sawyer, Susan Louise Sawyer, and Irma Kay Sawyer, all of Santa Ana; one brother, the Rev. James Sawyer of Abbeville, La. (Camden News - December 11, 1967)
