July 28, 1846 - February 2, 1930

Camden, Feb. 4- Funeral services For Mrs. S. Q. Sevier, well known woman who died in Little Rock Sunday after a long illness, were held here Tuesday with Rev. R. R. Claiborne, pastor of St. John's church in charge. Burial was in Greenwwod cemetery. Mrs. Sevier was a member of the Smead family, one of the most prominent in South Arkansas. She was a sister to Colonel Hamp Smead of this city. There are many nephews and Nieces who survive her, including Mrs. Henry Stewart, Misses Ann and Litchie Smead, L. B. Smead, Leonard Smead, Jack Smead, Leonard Powell, all of Camden, and B. C. Powell, of Little Rock. The Sevier family is well known in Hope, having resided in this city several years ago, where Mr. Sevier was in the newspaper business, being editor of the Hope Daily News. He was the principal spirit in the promotion of the railroad which was to be built from Camden to Hope, but the project was never put through. (Hope Star - February 4, 1930)
