November 30, 1886 - October 15, 1975
John Ramsey Purifoy, 89, of 894 Graham St., died today. The funeral will be held at 2:30 p.m. Thursday in the First United Methodist Church. Burial will follow in Greenwood Cemetery under the direction of Proctor Funeral Home. Mr. Purifoy was a lifetime resident of Ouachita County. He was born Nov. 30, 1886, the son of a Methodist minister, M. H.Purifoy and Minnie Etta Gulley Purifoy. He was a charter member of the local chapter of AARP and served on the advisory council of the Southwest Area Agency. He recently received a citation from Gov. David Pryor for his work and interests for the elderly and retired, and received an award from the Gerontological Society. Prior to his retirement, he owned and operated the Cross Transfer Co. and later served as agent for the Southwest Transfer Company. He became a member of the First United Methodist Church in 1908 and was an honorary member of the advisory board and served as usher for many years. He is survived by his wife, Esdelle Patterson Purifoy, and two brothers, Lynch Purifoy and B. B. Purifoy of Texarkana. (Camden News - October 15, 1975)
