Little O'Baugh Boys Drown in Ouachita River
The bodies of James and Joe O'Bough, 12 and 10 years of age respectively, who drowned in the Ouachita River near here yesterday afternoon, were recovered early today by the large searching party that worked in the river all night. One of the bodies was found floating on the surface near the place it went down. The other, having been dislodged from from under a log, came to the top 300 yards down stream. Parents of the brothers, Mr. and Mrs. Thomas O'Bough, and the brothers and sisters were prostrated by the tragedy which resulted when the boys waded beyond their depth from shallow to deep water. Although they could swim a little, the swift current carried them along and, grasping each other, they drowned together. Two other boys of about the same age, and who are only beginners at swimming were helpless to effect a rescue.
When the bodies were rescued they were brought to Murry's Mortuary where they were prepared for burial. Many relatives and friends viewed the little bodies at the mortuary.
Funeral services for the brothers will be held in the chapel at Rose Hill Cemetery at 6:00 o'clock this afternoon. The rites will be conducted by Rev. R. B. Moore, pastor of First M. E. Church, South, where the boys attended Sunday School, and by the Rev. W. C. Davidson, relative.
Besides the parents, the boys are survived by four sisters, Mrs. Emma Cornelia Buck of Arkadelphia; Mrs. Virginia Fincher, Hope; Mrs. Lillian Fincher, Little Rock; and little Miss Patricia Ann O'Baugh, Arkadelphia; and by two brothers,Tom and Franklin, Arkadelphia, also by their grandfather, Frank Halton of Donaldson.
The bereaved parents, brothers and sisters and other relatives have the most sincere sympathy of the community in their tragic loss.
