Ed E. Lockhart, aged 83, veteran paint contractor in Camden, died early Friday morning. He resided at 215 Spring Street. Mr. Lockhart was born on April 7, 1872 in Rodney, Miss. and moved to Camden when a young man. He had been a paint contractor for many years and only retired a few years ago because of ill health. He is survived by his wife, Mrs. Bernice Lockhart; one sister, Mrs. H. G. Smith of Jonesboro; two nieces, Miss Beulah Smith of Jonesboro and Miss Olive Smith of Dallas. The Smiths formerly lived in Camden. Funeral services will be at 2:30 p.m. Saturday at Proctor Chapel by Rev. R. B. Moore, pastor of the First Methodist Church. Burial to be in Greenwood cemetery. Pallbearers are Dawson Lide, Henry Reather, W. R. Holleman, and L. H. Koon. Honorary: Don Harrell, Chester Hawkins, Dr. P. U. DuCommon, Edwin Fultz, and Jack Fultz. (Camden News - July 15, 1955)
