William "Moon" Mullins, 54, of Vilonia, a Community Action Program for Central Arkansas board member, died Friday when his pickup truck was struck head-on in a Baxter County accident.

According to Arkansas State Police, Mullins was eastbound in a 1993 Dodge on Highway 178, west of Nubbin Ridge Road, and Sushil K. Chawla, 66, of Greensboro, N.C., was westbound in a 1995 Volkswagen when the accident occurred.

A police report states Chawla "crossed the center line to avoid a stopped vehicle," and struck Mullins' vehicle head-on.

Chawla and a passenger in his vehicle, Patricia Chawla, 60, were transported to a local hospital.

Mullins was not wearing a seat belt. Both people in the Volkswagen were wearing seat belts.

The accident occurred 3:19 p.m. Friday.

Mullins was also a member of the Arkansas National Guard, the Early Arkansas Re-enacters, Christian Motorcycle Association, Arkansas Bikers Aiming Toward Education and Vilonia Church of the Nazarene.

He is sales representative and is survived by his wife, Terry Beene Mullins; a daughter, Crystal Dawn Mullins of Little Rock; a son, J. B. Mullins of Vilonia; one sister, Judy Ann Hunnicutt of Conway; and several nieces and nephews.

Funeral Services will be Monday at Roller-McNutt Funeral Home Chapel.
