Betty Jane Yarbrough, age 76, of Roland, Arkansas died Saturday, August 29th, 2009. She was born in Vilonia, Arkansas on April 13th, 1933 to the late Loyd Jessie and Lottie Vanderhoof Bostic. She was preceded in death by parents, her brother: James Loyd Bostic and her grandson: Shannon Max Yarbrough.
Betty had attended the Liberty School System and graduated from Vilonia High School. Pursuing a career in Cosmetology she was a graduate of the Paducah School of Cosmetology in Paducah, Kentucky earning her cosmetology license that led to a long career until her retirement in 1999. She has been a licensed cosmetologist since 1953, received her Arkansas Instructors License in 1973, and has been an Electrolysis Instructor since 1974. Betty served as President of the Arkansas Hairdressers Cosmetology Association (AHCA) from 1984-1988 and was an Officer of the Arkansas School Owners Association in 1986. In 1978 she became a member of the Arkansas Hair Fashion Committee and in 1984 was appointed to the Arkansas State Board of Cosmetology, by Governor Bill Clinton, serving for 15 years until she retired in 1999. She was also a member of the Pleasant Grove Baptist Church of Ferndale.
Betty was owner and operator of Bee Jay's Hairstyling Academy which opened in 1973 and moved to its present location on Hinson Loop Rd in 1977. In 1991 Betty opened a second location in historical downtown Batesville, Arkansas.
Survivors include her three children: Denny M. Yarbrough and wife Lynda of Little Rock; Jane Powell and husband Richard of Ferndale, and Terry Yarbrough of Roland; her grandchildren: Elizabeth Ann Sears, Stephen Barnett, Melissa Barnett and Trey Powell; great-grandchildren: Max Barnett, Kayla Ann Sears, and Hunter Wade Sears; by her sisters: Mary O'Neal and husband Bill of Hot Springs, Patricia Walloch of Little Rock; her brothers: Jimmy Bostic and wife Betty of North Little Rock and Jessie Bostic and wife Debbie of Mayflower. She is also survived by several nieces, nephews, and extended family.
Visitation is from 6:00 – 8:00 p.m. Tuesday, September 1st . Funeral services will be held 11:00 a.m., Wednesday, September 2nd at the Pleasant Grove Baptist Church (27025 Kanis Rd., Ferndale, AR 72223) officiated by Rev. Jason King and Rev. Cliff Springer with burial in Vilonia City Cemetery.
Memorials may be made to the Pleasant Grove Baptist Church of Ferndale.
