*Obituary

Mary Ann Williams Wray, 75, of Melbourne, Arkansas passed away June 7, 2016 after a lengthy illness. Born August 16, 1940, in Izard County to Noah Thomas and Stella May Blankenship Williams, she was a lively, pretty girl who grew into a beautiful and spirited woman. She loved to have fun and was comfortable coloring outside the lines, regardless of the setting or subject.
A graduate of Melbourne High School and Arkansas Polytechnic College in Russellville, she quickly began a life-long love of teaching, primarily high school English in Harrison, Arkansas. She especially enjoyed the company of young people and the enthusiasm they had for the world around them.
She deeply loved her only child John and enjoyed all his activities. She brought the same spirit and sense of fun to her family and friends as she had in her own life and she had many happy years in Harrison. Summers were spent in Melbourne enjoying family and friends, including a nephew and nieces who always saw her as the life of the party. In time her family grew as she gained a dearly loved daughter-in-law and became a grandmother. She loved her two granddaughters with all her heart.
Mary Ann was interested in politics, current events, history, Greek mythology and entertainment. She was always eager to exchange stories with those around her, particularly if they had insight into people and events. Mary Ann was also blessed with a circle of friends who remained faithful and attentive to her, even as she encountered a series of health issues that eventually robbed her of her mobility and independence. They cooked for her, ran her errands and made her feel special her entire life.
Predeceased by her parents and her brother-in-law James H. Cone of Little Rock, Mary Ann is survived by her son John Wilson Wray Jr., his wife Linda and grandchildren Rachel Wray and Reagan Wray of Springdale. She leaves her sister, Bonnie Cone Hooper (Bob), her nephew Jimmy Cone (Andee), her nieces Annette Herrington (Phil) and Maria Henry (Paul), all of Little Rock, her aunt Erma Rhea Moore of Melbourne, as well as great-nieces and nephews Christina Blue (Michael), Patrick Cone (Lauren), Caroline Curton (Nick), Alex Cone (Krista), James and Lilly Henry, great-great nephews Oliver and Simon Blue and Eliot Cone, and lifelong friends Retha Hill Wyatt and Linda McBride to mourn her passing.
Services will be held at the First Baptist Church in Melbourne on Friday, June 10th at 10:00 A.M., officiated by Brother S.D. Hacker, with burial following at Melbourne Cemetery. Jimmy Cone, Paul Henry, Phil Herrington, Wayne Moore, Stuart Moore, Howard Paul Langston, John Wray, Sr. and Bige Wray will serve as pallbearers. Arrangements are by Roller-Crouch Funeral Home.
