James Bartus “Bart” Voyles age 84 of Strawberry, beloved husband, father, grandfather and devoted friend was welcomed into the gates of heaven on Sunday, June 14, 2015 surrounded by his loving family after battling cancer since 2004. Bart was born in Russell, Arkansas on September 22, 1930 to James Alpheus and Zela Dee (McCrackin) Voyles.
He spent his school years at Poughkeepsie, Arkansas. After school he joined the United States Air Force where he was a Korean War Veteran. Upon returning to the United States, he became a MP (Military Police) and during his final years of service he was Staff Seargent to the IG (Inspector General’s Office). After proudly serving 12 years, he received an honorable medical discharge. Bart was self employed and a lifelong resident of Strawberry, Arkansas.
He was a devout Christian and a loving and devoted husband and father. His children, grandchildren, and great grandchildren brought a twinkle to his eyes and a smile to his face. He loved listening to Southern Gospel music as well as the blues. Bart loved to study God’s word. He took great joy in helping those in need and contributed to several worthy philanthropic organizations. His tender and compassionate heart endeared him to many. He loved the outdoors and for many years enjoyed foxhunting. He enjoyed observing wildlife, particularly the various birds that he fed.
He was preceded in death by his parents; his beloved son Bennett Andrew “Andy” Voyles; his sisters, Chloe Bryant and Ina Glidewell and his brothers, Argus Voyles, Conard Voyles and J.D. Voyles.
Left to cherish Bart’s memory is his wife and soulmate of 60 years, Betty Lou Alice Voyles; his daughters, Donna turner of Walnut Ridge and Beverly Tucker (Dr. Michael) of White Hall; sisters, Emma Whitley of Florida and Joyce Denton of Cave City; five grandchildren, Andrew Turner (Natasha) of Lynn, Aaron Turner (Courtney) of Cord, Andrea Coney (Chad) of Conway, Bart Tucker (Elizabeth) of Conway, Katherine Allen (Stuart) of Wooster; five great grandchildren and many nieces and nephews and a host of other relatives and friends.
His home going service will be held Thursday, June 18, 2015 at 10:00 a.m. at the Qualls Funeral Home Chapel in Cave City with Bro. Curt Howard officiating. Burial will follow in the Ward Cemetery located at Strawberry with arrangements by Qualls Funeral Home of Cave City.
Visitation will be Wednesday, June 17, 2015 from 6:00 until 8:00 p.m. at the funeral home.
Pallbearers will be Aaron Turner, Andrew Turner, Bart Tucker, Rick Clem, Stuart Allen and Chad Coney.
Honorary pallbearers are Tommy Voyles, Jim Voyles, Ken Voyles, Clifford Glidewell and Tony Glidewell.
