Obituary
Johnnie Lee Gleghorn was born at Myron, Arkansas on March 21, 1930. He was the son of Walter and Vesta Hill Gleghorn. He died May 20, 2006 at White River Medical Center in Batesville, Arkansas at the age of 76 years, 1 month and 29 days of age.He was a 1949 graduate of Violet Hill High School, served in the U.S. Marines for two years during the Korean Conflict, then attended Arkansas College (now Lyon College). On May 23, 1954, he was united in marriage to Janice Box at Violet Hill. To this union, two children were born, a son Brent and a daughter Jerri. During his working years, he owned and operated Gleghorn TV Service in the late 1950's and early 1960's. In 1964, he was employed by Sears Roebuck Company and worked there until he opened Gleghorn Sporting Goods about 1974 in the Redbird Shopping Center. He went to work for WRD Broadcasting Company and assisted in the establishment of KAAB and later in the opening of KWOZ. He retired at the age of 65. He was a member of the Central Avenue United Methodist Church where he served as Sunday School Superintendent, Chairman of the Board of Trustees, and worked with the youth several years. He was a member of the Jaycees and a charter member of the Civitan Club.Survivors include his wife of 52 years; one son, Brent Gleghorn and his wife Kim; one daughter, Jerri Henley and her husband, Scott; four grandchildren: Brandi and Shani Henley and Logan and Claire Gleghorn all of Batesville; one sister: Winnie McDonald and her husband, Harold of Conway; one sister-in-law, Sue Grace of Dardanelle.He was preceded in death by his parents and one brother, Devon Gleghorn.The funeral service will be at 2:00 p.m. Tuesday, May 23 at the Central Avenue United Methodist Church conducted by Reverend Roger Hook assisted by Reverend Ron Durham.Visitation will be at Roller-Crouch Funeral Home on Monday, May 22, from 5:00 to 8:00 p.m.Pallbearers will be Gary Bridgman, Anthony Gleghorn, Jack McDonald, Dr. W. L. Crabtree, Larry Price, Fred Wann and Jack McDonald.Honorary pallbearers are Dr. Robert Walton, Roy G. Thomas, Jewel Caraway, Richard Lewis, Preston Grace, Jr., R.L. Sheffield, Bobby Bolin, Stacy Wright, Shane Wood, the men and women of the Pairs and Spares Sunday School Class and the Triangle Café Roundtable.Memorials may be made to the Family Life Center Elevator Fund, Central Avenue United Methodist Church, 1205 N. Central Avenue, Batesville, AR 72501
