Obituary
Edward Tracy Jones, M.D., age 99, died Tuesday, November 11, 2014, after a brief illness.

Born March 9, 1915, the only child of E.C. and Dora Belle Hover Jones in Lima, Ohio, the family moved to Manhattan, Kansas when Edward was a small child.

He attended local schools and Kansas State University where his father was on the engineering faculty. A decision to change careers led Edward to abandon veterinary medicine studies at Kansas State and enroll in the University of Minnesota Medical School, graduating in 1941. Upon completing an internship in Minot, North Dakota, he married Helen Louise Traub on June 30, 1942 and was inducted into the U.S. Armed Forces. Discharged in 1945 with rank of Major in the United States Army Air Corps while stationed at Randolph Field, Texas, Edward continued his medical studies at Washington University in St. Louis, Missouri and the University of Illinois in Chicago, Illinois, specializing in Ophthalmology. He established his medical practice in Beloit, Wisconsin in 1950 where he quickly earned a reputation as a successful caring and skilled physician and surgeon. In 1974, he and Helen moved to Batesville, Arkansas, which they had come to admire while vacationing and where they planned to retire. Choosing to continue his profession, Edward once again found his waiting room overflowing with satisfied patients. He continued practicing medicine until 1995 when he was 80 years old. Edward's life has been marked not only by professional success, but also personal achievement. A life-long Christian, at the time of death he was a long time member of West Baptist Church, combining his abiding interest in music with church service by singing in the choir, playing in the church orchestra and even composing and performing several praise songs. Who can forget his version of "I'm going to sit right down and have a talk with Jesus" while providing accompaniment on the tambourine? Edward enjoyed playing the clarinet and saxophone in bands and orchestras from his school days and later in life added the flute. Diverse in his hobbies, he was also an avid gardener, inter-national traveler, mechanic and woodworker and in his 90's took up ballroom dancing, performing in several local recitals.

Edward was preceded in death by his parents and in 2008 by his beloved wife Helen.

He is survived by his son Terrence Jones and wife Sharon of Monroe, Louisiana, daughter Clarese Ocker of Portland, Oregon and son Dr. E.J. Jones of Batesville. Other survivors include his grand-children Ann Wynn and husband Aaron of Batesville, Jason Ocker of Portland, Oregon, Derreck Ocker, his wife Christy and their children Rusch, Collin, and Thomas Williams of Oakland, Tennessee, Griffith Jones of Orlando, Florida, Morgan Jones and his son Aiden of Orlando, and Dr. Ned Jones his wife, Venetta and their children Anastasia and Zoe of Orlando.

A celebration of Edward's life was held at the West Baptist Church. Burial was in Oaklawn Cemetery.
