Obituary
Frank L. Monroe, Jr. 69, of Batesville died Tuesday, November 27, 2007 at a hospital in Little Rock.
He was born December 5, 1937 in Lyons, Colorado and was the son of Frank L. Monroe, Sr. and Marjorie (Joy) Monroe.
He was a member of the church of Christ at Quail Valley where he taught Bible class.
He graduated from Cozad High School in 1955. He served in the U.S. Air Force for 20 years retiring as a Master Sergeant and was a Viet Nam veteran. While in the military he worked on radar for B-52 bombers and other airborne radar. In the last 5 years of his military service, he was a field training detachment instructor. Then in 1978 he graduated from Arkansas College and received his master's degree in Education from Arkansas State University. He then taught school for one year at Weiner, Arkansas; then taught for approximately two years at Cave City; and one year at Floral where he was the elementary school principal. For about 15 years, he was the principal at Midland High School in Pleasant Plains.
He enjoyed woodworking and making cedar chests, shelves, tables and other projects for the family; enjoyed fishing with his grandchildren; was a master gardener; was a member of the Foothills Plant Society; and enjoyed flower gardening as well.
Frank is survived by his wife, Mary Ann (Slusher) Monroe of Batesville; one son, Franklin D. Monroe of Cave City; three daughters: Pamela A. McLaughlin of Cave City, Tina L. Manley of Sikeston, MO.; Lee Ann McLaughlin of Caldwell, OH; two brothers: Stanley Monroe of North Glenn, CO. and Dale Monroe of North Platte, NE; two sisters: Clarine Davidson of Cozad, NE. and Sandi Feyen of Vancouver, WA. Ten grandchildren also survive him: Dino L. McLaughlin, Jr. of Vilonia, Chris L. Manley of Cape Girardeau, MO., Patrick A. McLaughlin of Louisville, KY., Drumand L. McLaughlin, Jr. of Dayton, OH., Kellee M. Manley of Sikeston, MO., Brandi L. Rader of Oklahoma City, OK., Shane A. McLaughlin of Caldwell, OH., Megan M. McLaughlin of Caldwell, OH., Kyla L. McLaughlin of Caldwell, OH., and Kathleen P. Monroe of Cave City; and nine great-grandchildren: Alyssa McLaughlin, Bailey Manley, Breanna McLaughlin, Jackson Manley, Tristan McLaughlin, Dalton McLaughlin, Dino McLaughlin III, Clint Rader and Eli Manley. Other survivors include many nieces and nephews.
Other than his parents, he was preceded in death by one sister, Marguerite Meredith and an infant brother, Leroy Monroe.
Funeral services are at 2:00 p.m. Saturday at the Roller-Crouch Chapel in Batesville with Lenoard Westbrook and Allan Jones officiating.
Pallbearers are, Dino L. McLaughlin, Chris L. Manley, Patrick A. McLaughlin, Drumand L. McLaughlin, Shane A. McLaughlin (his grandsons), and Greg Foote. Honorary pallbearers are Dr. Steve Greer and Dr. Greg Neaville.
The family will receive friends from 5:00 to 8:00 p.m. on Friday at the funeral home.
Burial will follow the services at Oaklawn Cemetery with full military honors at Oaklawn Cemetery under the direction of Roller-Crouch Funeral Home of Batesville.
