Obituary
Robert Alvin "Bob" Royer, 82, of Batesville, formerly of Blytheville, died Saturday, May 14, 2011, in a Houston hospital.

Born Oct. 6, 1928, in Enid, Okla., he was the son of Ray W. and Dora H. Royer. He lived on the family farm until going to college in 1944. He attended Phillips University and graduated from the University of Oklahoma with a degree in chemical engineering in 1950.

He married Nadine Pounds in 1951. He worked for the U.S. Navy and then for Phillips Petroleum with assignments in Ardmore, Okla., and Baghdad, Iraq. Upon returning to the United States he began working for Conoco in Ponca City, Okla. Conoco transferred him to Lake Charles, La., and then to Blytheville. During his time in Blytheville he was employed by Conoco, Agrico and Freeport-McMoran. He also worked a short time for Arcadian in Memphis.

He was united in marriage to Eleanor Hill in Blytheville on March 19, 1978. They moved to Batesville in 2010.

He was an active member of the Blytheville community, where he was a member of the First Christian Church for over 40 years, was an elder and served as chairman of the board several times.

He was a long-time member and past president of Kiwanis in Blytheville and recently joined the club in Batesville. During his time in the Blytheville club he had many years of perfect attendance as well as spearheading the interclub committee and working with youth. He was involved in Emmaus. He was on the board of Red Cross and donated over 10 gallons of blood.

He was a member of the Sons of the American Revolution, re-instituted the Chickasaw Chapter in Blytheville and served as president. He was a member of the Blytheville-Gosnell Chamber of Commerce.

He enjoyed traveling, overseeing the gardening, music, going to plays and musicals at the theater and light maintenance work.

Survivors include his wife of 33 years; a daughter, Liz Royer Watkins of Seattle; three stepchildren, Sharon R. Powell, Stephanie R. Miller and Ben D. Russell; 10 grandchildren, Jennifer Bolles, Hill Olsen, George Watkins, Bryan Bolles, Hayden Watkins, Shade Powell, Matthew Miller, Jacob Russell, Samantha Miller and Jordan Russell; and a great-grandson, Halvor Olson.

He was preceded in death by his parents; two daughters, Pam Royer Bolles and Martha Rushing Payne; a brother, Winston Royer; and a sister, Lou Ellen Royer Swinton.

A memorial service will be at 6 p.m. Thursday at First Christian Church in Blytheville with Dr. Tommy J. Carney officiating. Burial will be at 1 p.m. Friday in Oaklawn Cemetery in Batesville with Kay and Bob Burton officiating.

Visitation will be from 4 to 6 p.m. Thursday at the church.

Memorials may be made to First Christian Church; Red Cross; or The Haven.
