Luther "Shorty" Winston Watson, 89, of Conway, passed away July 20, 2011. He was born July 8, 1922, in Crabtree, AR, to the late Irby Monroe and Dovie Leola (Autry) Watson. He will be remembered by family and friends as a gentle, caring man. Shorty served in the Army Air Force during World War II, as a medic. He retired from Fort Roots VA Hospital in 1979 after 33 years of service as a nursing assistant. In addition to his parents he is preceded in death by his wife of 57 years, Lillian (Lackey).
Shorty is survived by two daughters, Hazel Simmons of Sherwood, AR and Marilyn Kendall of Sublimity, OR; two brothers, James M. Watson of Clinton and Irby M. Watson of Benton; one sister, Opal Tester of Clinton; ten grandchildren and 15 great-grandchildren.
Visitation will be 5-7 p.m., Friday, July 22, 2011 at Roller-McNutt Funeral Home, in Greenbrier. His funeral service will be 1:00 p.m., Saturday, July 23, in the Chapel of Roller-McNutt Funeral Home. Burial will follow in Oakland Cemetery.
The family would like to thank the staff at Conway Healthcare and Rehab and Arkansas Hospice for taking such good care of our Dad.
