*Obituary
Hazel C. Walther, 76, of Conway passed away Sunday, July 4, 2004, after an unexpected and valiant week-long struggle against pneumonia and other complications. Born August 20, 1927 in Holland, she was the tenth of eleven children born to Hugh L. Craig and Lillie Ann Parker Craig. She was the widow of John Joseph Walther to whom she was married 40 years until his recent death on December 7th, 2003. She was a life-long member of the United Methodist Church.
Mrs. Walther earned her Bachelor of Science in Education from Arkansas State Teachers College in 1949 and her Master of Science Degree in Home Economics from the University of Arkansas in 1963. She taught in public schools in Marmaduke and Ashflat and also worked for the Arkansas Home Extension Agency in Helena, McGee, Ashflat and Blytheville. While in Blytheville, she met her husband after he moved into the downstairs apartment of her boarding house. They married in November 1963 at the First United Methodist Church in Conway.
She moved with her husband to Miami, Florida where he retired from the United States Air Force. While in Florida, she worked in the Dade County Head Start program, designing the curriculum and training and guiding teachers.
She later returned to Conway and lovingly cared for her husband full-time after he suffered a debilitating stroke in 1985. While doing this, she was also able to offer full-time care for a sister and brother-in-law for long periods in her home.
During her life, she enjoyed traveling with her husband and two young daughters in their recreational vehicle for many weeks during the summers. In her later years, when confined close to home due to her husband's illness, she loved to work in her yard where she tended many varieties of roses and other flowers, and developed friendships with many neighbors who admired her gardens.
She is survived by her two daughters, Kimberly Ann Limcangco and her husband Michael and four children, Delfin, Derek, Devon and Dexter, of Phoenixville, Pennsylvania; and Jennifer Marie Roberts and her husband Jeffrey and son Parker of Little Rock. She is also survived by her two sisters Eva J. Langford of Conway and Jimmie Ford of Bald Knob, plus a host of nieces and nephews.
Graveside services are at 11 am Wednesday at Oakland United Methodist Church Cemetery in Holland. Visitation will be 6 to 8pm Tuesday at the Griffin-Leggett funeral home in Conway.
Mrs. Walther had many pearls of wisdom that she enjoyed, a frequent one being that "death is a part of life" and something that should be accepted peacefully after a long and fulfilling life. She will be very missed by those who knew and loved her.
