Darlene C. Martz January 12, 1929 - February 5, 2011
Darlene C. Martz, 82, of Baroda, formerly of Benton Harbor, passed away on Saturday, February 5, 2011, at Lakeland Regional Medical Center in St. Joseph.
Visitation will be held from 5:00 until 7:00 P.M., on Thursday, February 10, at the Fairplain Chapel of Florin Funeral Service, 1053 E. Napier, in Benton Harbor. Burial will be held in Strawberry, Arkansas.
In lieu of flowers, memorials may be made to either the Berrien County Cancer Service or to Lakeland Hospice. Messages of condolence may be sent to www.florin.net.
Darlene was born January 12, 1929, in Watervliet, Michigan to Charles and Anna Bailey.
She married Jesse Martz. Darlene began working at Mercy Hospital in Benton Harbor as a teenager and retired over 30 years later as a dietitian. She had a very strong work ethic which was evident to all those who worked with her. Darline “never met a stranger” and “knew everyone.” She affectionately referred to the young people who worked with her as “all my kids” and called everyone “Honey.” She had an infectious laugh and an unforgettable sense of humor. Additionally, Darlene enjoyed reminiscing about “the Old Days.”
Darlene is survived by several nieces and nephews.
In addition to her parents, Darlene is preceded in death by her husband, Jesse in 1987 and by siblings. Her favorite and parting expression would be: “and I don’t want ‘no mess’ out of you.”
