LITTLE ROCK - Donald Jean Childers 28 July 1926 - 21 Nov. 2014

Don Childers went to be with the Lord on Friday, Nov. 21, 2014, surrounded by his family.

Born in Artesia, New Mexico, July 28, 1926, 'DJ' spent his lifetime in service to others.

His studies at Texas Western University were interrupted by Pearl Harbor, and he served the remainder of WW II in the Navy. He had a distinguished 41-year career in the U.S. Postal Service in roles that included Post Master and Sectional Center Manager.

DJ was active in the Methodist Church for most of his life, including many key leadership positions. A longtime Harrison resident, 'DJ' and his wife of 21 years, Donna Gene, most recently lived in Little Rock.

He was preceded in death by his first wife of 46 years, Mae Ellen (Huenefeld) and is survived by their three children, Frank (and Kathy) Childers of Austin, Texas, Ed (and Jan) Childers & Cathy (and Robert) Vaughn of Fort Worth, Texas. He is also survived by Donna Gene (Orendorff), and her daughters Kim (and Charles) Ellis of Little Rock, Pam Wallace of Cabot, and preceded in death by Donna Gene's son David Hout. 'DJ' was also blessed with 14 grandchildren and 11 great-grandchildren.

Graveside services will be today, Nov. 24, at 2 p.m., Farmington Cemetery, Farmington, Ark. In lieu of flowers, the family wishes donations be made to Arkansas Children's Hospital Little Rock, Ark. or 1st United Methodist Church Harrison, Ark.
