Rex Lovell, 76 of Conway, died Friday (Sept. 10, 2004), in Conway.
Born Aug. 31, 1928 at Choctaw, Ark., he was the son of Ernest Guy Lovell and Oma Dollar Lovell.
Rex was an educator, coach, sports official, and athletic administrator. He worked at Clinton, Wynne, and Conway High Schools and retired from the University of Central Arkansas. He had state championship teams at Clinton and Conway.
His UCA baseball teams held three Arkansas Intercollegiate Conference titles and two NAIA District titles. He coached the 1965 Arkansas High School All-Star football team, was named the 1964 Arkansas Athletic Association Football Coach of the Year, and was twice named the NAIA District 17 Baseball Coach of the Year.
He served as athletic director at UCA from 1981 through 1987. He was a member of the Arkansas High School Officials Association Hall of Fame and is to be inducted into the University of Central Arkansas Sports Hall of Fame.
Rex was a member of the Arkansas National Guard and served in the Army during the Korean Conflict. He was an avid hunter and fisherman and a devoted grandfather.
He was predeceased by his parents and a brother, Ernest Doyle Lovell.
He is survived by his wife, Hilda Presley Lovell; by his son, Roy; daughter-in-law, Lisa; and granddaughter, Alexis, all of Conway; and a brother, Dale Lovell of Monterey, California.
Funeral services will be at 10 a.m. Tuesday at Roller-McNutt Chapel in Conway with interment at Oak Grove Cemetery.
