Dr. Robert Love Taylor Sr., 93, of Conway died Wednesday (May 19, 1999) at Conway Regional Medical Center and his wife, Mary Margaret Adkisson Taylor, 85, died Wednesday night.

A local surgeon and family practitioner, Taylor practiced medicine for 54 years, most of those firmly ensconced in his private practice on Parkway.

Taylor graduated from the University of Arkansas for Medical Sciences in 1934 and trained as a specialist in Brooklyn, N.Y. He also served as chief of staff at Conway Regional Hospital.

But medicine was not the only passion in his life. Taylor was an aviation enthusiast for over 40 years, selling his Cessna Skylane aircraft in 1986 when he was 83 years old.

Farming was another of Dr. Taylor's pastimes. He owned 2,000 acres of farm land in Houston and Bigelow, personally overseeing the clearing of that land.

"I'm more proud of my flying, (water)skiing and running a bulldozer than of being a doctor," Taylor once said.

However, doctoring was his childhood dream. "I've always wanted to be a doctor," he said in 1986. "Even before you would think I was old enough to think about it."

His building was later purchased by the city of Conway and renovated to hold municipal court.

Born Feb. 7, 1906, in Perryville, Taylor was a son of Benjamin Daniel and Birdie House Taylor, a World War II Army veteran and a member of First United Methodist Church of Conway.

Mrs. Taylor was born Oct. 29, 1913. She was a housewife.

Survivors include a son, Robert L. (Bobby) Taylor Jr. of Austin, Texas.

Taylor's body will be cremated by Roller-McNutt Funeral Home. No services are planned. Arrangements for Mrs. Taylor will be announced by the funeral home.
