TONTITOWN — Father Joseph Correnti, 56, of Tontitown, died Wednesday, April 3, in Fayetteville. He was born March 18, 1946, in Kansas City, Mo., to Joseph and Bertha Correnti.

He was ordained to the Sacred Priesthood at the Cathedral of St. Andrews on May 20, 1972, by Bishop Albert L. Fletcher. His early assignments included associate pastorates at Immaculate Conception church in Fort Smith and Our Lady of the Holy Souls in Little Rock. He served as pastor of St. Agnes in Mena with the Missions of St. Jude, Waldron and All Saints, Mount Ida; St. Anne's Church, North Little Rock; pastor St. John's Church Russellville with Mission of St. Augustine's Dardanelle; pastor of St. Paul Church, Pocahontas; and pastor of Our Lady of the Holy Souls, Little Rock.

He had been pastor of St. Joseph Church in Tontitown since February 1995, while also serving as pastor of St. Raphael's, Springdale, from August 1996 until August 2001. He was diocesan director of vocations and director of youth ministries from June 1981 until July 1987, at which time he was made rector of Holy Trinity Seminary in Dallas. He served in this capacity for two years. He served the diocese at various times on the clergy personnel board, presbyteral council, and clergy welfare board and was currently chairman of the presbyteral council.

He was preceded in death by his father Joseph Correnti Sr., his mother, Bertha, and one brother. He is survived by his stepmother, Mary Jane Correnti of Mena.

A Vigil Service will be held at St. Joseph Church in Tontitown at 7 p.m. today. A Mass of Christian Burial will be conducted at St. Raphael's in Springdale at 11 a.m. Monday with burial in St. Joseph's Cemetery in Tontitown. Arrangements are under the direction of Sisco Funeral Chapel in Springdale. Memorials may be made to St. Joseph Catholic Church, P.O. Box 39, Tontitown, 72770.
