LOWELL — Claudia E. Thornsberry, 88, of Lowell, died May 9, 2011, at Washington Regional Medical Center in Fayetteville. She was born June 14, 1922, at War Eagle Township in Benton County, to Claude Lee and Ora Ann Shockley Clardy.
Claudia was a lifetime resident of Northwest Arkansas, graduating from Springdale High School. She is a member of Cross Church in Springdale. She was president of Springdale Business and Professional Women's Club, participated in Springdale Garden Club and was Sweepstakes winner in the historical division with six ribbons; she was a member Springdale and Fayetteville Elks Lodge. Claudia worked for Dr. Friedman Sisco and Dr. Charles P. Sisco for 40 years. Together with her husband, Dwight A. Thornsberry, owned and operated Dwight's Shopping Center and Grocery Store on Holcomb Street in Springdale.
She was preceded in death by her husband, Dwight A. Thornsberry, whom she married in 1938; and three brothers, Ellsworth, Harold and Hurley Clardy.
She is survived by her sisters, Kathryn Logue and husband, Earl, of Springdale, and Patricia Hopkins and husband, M.E., of Fayetteville; and several nieces and nephews.
Funeral services will be 10 a.m. Saturday, May 14, 2011, at Sisco Funeral Chapel of Springdale, with the Rev. Charlie Foster officiating. Burial will follow at Friendship Cemetery.
Visitation will be Friday from 5 to 7 p.m. at the funeral home.
