John Alton Rice, 78, of Conway died Monday, May 11, 2009 after a long illness. He fought his illness to the very end with courage and dignity.
He was born December 19, 1930 in Quitman, Arkansas to K.A. (Boss) and Millie Holliman Rice.

He was a loving husband, father and grandfather.

He was a wonderful "Daddy" to his children and a wonderful "Paw Paw" to his grandchildren whom he loved so dearly.

He was a rancher and rental property owner.

Coming from humble beginnings with little education, he was a self-made man who lived the American Dream. He held his first full time job at the age of 11 doing a grown mans job for a saw mill at $4 a day and in the years to come became a successful business man through hard work and determination.

He believed in working hard and getting things done and was an inspiration to his family and friends.

He loved raising livestock, especially horses, on the ranch he was so proud of and had worked so hard for. He always got up no matter the weather to feed his cows and horses before going to work. He often took a horseback ride over his ranch before and after work at United Motor Company where he worked for 28 years as a mechanic. In later years he often worked on rental property before and after work and after retiring from United Motor he worked full time on his rental properties.

He was preceded in death by his parents, two brothers, Naldi and Earl, two sisters, Erma Dean and Leona.
He is survived by his loving wife of 60 years, Freeda Helen, children, Johnny Michael Rice, Helen Rae Rice Grinder and husband Jerry, Jeannie Michelle Rice Stanton and husband Michael and beloved grandchildren, John Alton Rice III, Summer Rae Rice Stanton and Jagger Michael Rice Stanton. He is survived as well by two sisters, Joyce Woodard and Lenora Holliman and many nieces and nephews.

Freeda Helen (Iberg) Rice, age 85, of Conway, our dearly beloved Mother, went to be with our Lord and Savior Jesus Christ, on October 10, 2016.

Born on March 16, 1931 in Liberty Arkansas to Mr. and Mrs. Cecil and Clara Iberg. Freeda spent her youth living in Vilonia, Arkansas, graduating from Vilonia High School, before moving to Conway where she would spend the rest of her days dedicating her life to being a good Christian, hard work and an unquestionable diligence and commitment to raising and caring for her family.

Freeda had a strong work ethic, demonstrated by her 28 years of service at the International Shoe Factory. After her retirement, Freeda started a successful tax preparation business, taking personal interest and care to help each and every one of her clients, a job she enjoyed immensely until her untimely passing.

Freeda was preceded in death by her devoted Husband of 60 years, John Alton Rice, who assured her that he would be waiting for her to help her over to the other side, a thought that was always a great comfort to her. She was also preceded in death by her brothers, Marvin Iberg and Herman Iberg.

She is survived by her children, Johnny Michael Rice, Helen Rae Rice Grinder and her husband Jerry Lee Grinder, and Jeannie Michelle Rice.

She is also survived by her very very much adored grandchildren, John Alton Rice III, Summer Rae Ashbey Rice Stanton and Jagger Michael Rice Stanton, her sister-in-law, Pat Iberg and her children, niece, Kathy

Iberg Brents and her children, Carolyn Bateman and her children, as well as many beloved cousins and relatives, including Carma Jean Finch, Evylene Carter, Charlene Mullenax and Cordell Long and their children.

She was called “Mommy” by her children and many of their friends, and “MawMaw” by her grandchildren, but she carried the nickname “Mommy-All” because she was a Mommy to all of her family and many others. Freeda was a devout Christian first, loving and serving our Lord and Savior, Jesus Christ, always through selfless acts of kindness and generosity. She was a mother hen, creating a loving bond and connection between family that kept them flocked around her. Her family was the center of her existence and she never wavered in her commitment to family ties and values. She also knew that she was loved and adored by her family. They all put her on a pedestal and she was the Matriarch of the family.

She will be remembered with great affection and dearly missed by all who knew her, there will be always be a void in the hearts of her children, grand-children and loved ones who have suffered the loss of her, but a great comfort in knowing our sweet angel watches over us, receiving all the joys and gifts of heaven while our sweet Daddy greets her at the gates and reunites with his beautiful, loving, and devoted wife.

Freeda would think it remiss to not thank all who helped and prayed for her during her final days, including the excellent staff and doctors at Conway Regional Medical Center who gave their best efforts to save her, all of which brought comfort to the family in knowing it was the Will of Jesus that carried her to Heaven.

Pallbearers will be Craig Iberg, Roger Iberg, Jesse Rice, Cody Rice, Jeremiah Rice and Greg Sallis. Honorary Pallbearers will be John Wayne Carter, Dr. Jeffrey Kirsch and Joe White.
