Earnie Dean “E.D.” Childress Sr., 61, of Batesville died June 5, 2015, in a Jonesboro hospital.
Born Feb. 7, 1954, he was the son of Hezekiah and Cleoria Childress. He met his future wife, Delois Ann, in 1974, and they were married in 1975. At the age of 19 he became a Christian. He moved to Cave City when he was 21. For 40 years he was in the ministry. He was a bishop in five states and oversaw nine churches while supporting international ministries.
He held degrees from Crowley’s Ridge College, the University of Arkansas Community College at Batesville and New Testament Academy.
Survivors include his wife; seven children, Teunna Green, Trenia Childress, Earnie Childress Jr., Tramane Childress, Erika Childress, Timothy Childress and Whitney Whitson; 13 grandchildren; six brothers, Isaac Whitaker, Harry Truman Gaston, Alonzo Childress, Moses Childress, Jimmy Childress and Ronald Childress; two sisters, Ercenia Lewis and Alice Artis; and several nephews and nieces.
He was preceded in death by his parents; a brother, Hezekiah Childress Jr.; and a sister, Cleoria “Sis” Childress.
The funeral was at 11 a.m. June 20 at New Testament Holiness Church in Batesville with Judge Green officiating. Burial was in Oaklawn Cemetery at Batesville under the direction of Marianna Funeral Home. Repass was held at West Baptist Church Gymnasium in Batesville.
Pallbearers were Isaac Whitaker, Emanuel Eugene, Earnest Russell, Romy Paxton, Solomon Davis and Stephen Black.
Honorary pallbearers were Curtis Scales and Perry Roar.
