Obituary:

Albert Eugene Noland Smith, son of the late Albert Franklin Noland and Irma Korn Noland, was born January 31, 1925 in El Paso, Texas. He departed this life December 12, 2015 in Mountain Home, Arkansas at the age of 90 years, 10 months and 11 days. He served as a gunner in the United States Navy during World War II, stationed in the Philippine Islands. He was united in marriage to Rosie Kovalchik April 17, 1960 in Dallas, Texas. After moving to Melbourne in 1963, he established Smith Tractor Sales and Service, operating it for over 50 years. He was also a cattle farmer. Albert was active in the Prison Ministry at the North Central Unit in Calico Rock for many years. He was a member of the Calico Rock Mennonite Church.
Albert is survived by his wife of 55 years: Rosie Smith of the home; three sons: David Roger Smith of Conroe, Texas, Richard Wayne Mayo of Melbourne and Timothy Brian Smith of Melbourne; four daughters:Sherrill Montgomery of Willis, Texas, Elizabeth Smith of Conroe, Texas, Roselyn Vance (Tommy) of Melbourne and Samantha Powers (Hank) of Melbourne; four brothers: Albert Charles Noland, Earl Martin Noland, Lonnie Noland, and Albert Franklin Noland, Jr all of Arizona; three sisters: Wilma Noland, Sharon Noland Hines (Lynn) and Elanor Bishop (Jerry) all of Arizona; five grandchildren: Michelle Mayo, Vanessa Marie May, Nikki Smith, Jessy Smith and Alfred Powers; five great grandchildren: Sierra Winslow, Austin Winslow, Charli Smith, Grady Smith and Hadli Sartin and a host of other relatives and many good friends. He was preceded in death by his parents; two brothers: Bev Noland and Kenneth Smith and one great grandson: Logan Winslow.
Funeral service will be Tuesday, December 15 at 10:00 a.m. at Howard Memorial Funeral Chapel in Melbourne with Doyne Robertson officiating. Burial will be at Violet Hill Cemetery under the direction of Eddie’s Family Funeral Home in Melbourne. Visitation will be Monday, December 14 from 6-8 p.m.
Memorials may be made to: Prison Ministry at North Central Unit, 10 Prison Circle, Calico Rock, Arkansas 72519.
Pallbearers: David Hoskinds, Frankie Roberts, Danny May, Hank Powers, Tommy Bolt and Dennis Sartin.
Honorary Pallbearers: Dwight Lawrence, Jerry Ward, Jack McCollum and Dennis Coon.
